Register as a team

With Pedal for Scotland, registering with a team of friends definately makes for a case of the more the merrier. Entering as a team makes the day a more enjoyable and sociable experience, and gives you a ready made support network to help you on your way.

Riders can also team up in support of a good cause, as was the case with Pedal for Scotland's largest team to date - Team Andy Stewart - who joined together to raise funds for the ride's official charity partner Leukaemia Research.

Team Andy Stewart is made up of friends and family of a young Scot Andy Stewart, who tragically lost his life, age 15, to leukaemia, only 12 days after being diagnosed, in May 2006.

Andy's story touched the nation when a BBC documentary filmed Andy in hospital and he spoke about his fear of facing death at a young age.

Team Andy Stewart formed shortly after Andy's death and was initially made up of members of Dunfermline Carnegie Hockey Club, of which Andy was a member. The team entered Pedal for Scotland in 2006 and again in 2007 and have raised over £40,000 for Leukaemia Research.

Ewan Ogilvie, the organiser of Team Andy Stewart commented: "The team has really gone from strength to strength as word has spread. From 40 members in 2006 to just over 90 involved last year it's been amazing how folks have wanted to get involved. With wee ones like my son Grant who cycled the 55 miles with us last year at the age of just 9 and team members at, shall we say, the opposite end of the age spectrum the event caters for both young and old. I'm really proud to be involved with Team Andy Stewart."

The Team was awarded Leukaemia Research's David Carmichael Memorial Quaich in 2007 in regonition of the challenges faced and effort put into taking part in a cycling event. If you know of an individual or a team who will be taking part in Pedal for Scotland 2008 and by doing so will face a challenge either physically or emotionally then please nominate them to be considered for this award. To do so please email pedalforscotland@lrf.org.uk or phone Yvonne on 0131 661 9224.
