Make FreshNLo Pedal for Scotland your 2015 Challenge

The season of overindulgence has come to an end and it’s time to shift those festive pounds and set some goals for 2015.

Cycling Scotland is encouraging Scots of all ages and abilities to saddle up and join the country’s biggest mass participation cycle ride – freshnlo Pedal for Scotland.

Now is the time to get training! Even if you haven’t been on a bike for years, just getting out for a half hour ride a couple of times a week from now will dramatically increase your fitness levels. Just half an hour’s cycling has the potential to burn over 200 calories, that’s the equivalent of a mince pie.

Once the weather begins to get brighter, increase the duration and frequency of your rides, or why not even cycle to and from work if you can?

Once you build up your mileage, taking part in the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland Challenge ride would burn off the calorific equivalent of 13 mince pies, 67 pigs in blankets or one whole Christmas pudding!

freshnlo Pedal for Scotland takes riders from Glasgow Green to Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium via two routes, the 47 mile Challenge Ride or the 110 mile Sportive. It’s a fun, active day out for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy with friends, family and colleagues.

For 2015, participants have the choice of three confirmed rides, all taking place on Sunday 6 September:

  • 47 mile Challenge Ride – starting at Glasgow Green and finishing at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium via a lunch stop at beautiful Linlithgow Palace and cake stop at Avonbridge.
  • 110 mile Sportive – A ride for the serious cyclist. The ride also starts at Glasgow Green and finishes at Murrayfield but takes riders through the Southern Uplands and features over 2,400 metres of ascent.
  • 9 mile family ride- Starts at Kirkliston and joins the last 9 miles of the Challenge ride to Murrayfield Stadium. Ideal for riders of all ages and abilities.

Entrants can take advantage of early bird prices until 31st January, saving up to £4 on entry compared to 2014 prices.

Participants can raise money for official charity partner the STV Appeal. The STV Appeal supports children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland and every penny raised stays in Scotland. In 2014,freshnlo Pedal for Scotland riders raised over £110,000 for the STV Appeal.

Entry is now open and early bird entries are available for a cheaper price until the end of January at www.pedalforscotland.org
