Wee Jaunt Edinburgh bike ride in brand new Linlithgow start
Pedal for Scotland’s Wee Jaunt Edinburgh bike ride will start at Linlithgow’s Peel for the first time this year.
STV’s Live at Five presenter Hayley Matthews and her son Harris (5) were in Linlithgow to launch the stunning new start venue for the Wee Jaunt Edinburgh bike ride – part of the Pedal for Scotland series of events.
Suitable for all ages and abilities, the 10 mile Wee Jaunt Edinburgh will start at The Peel beneath the beautiful backdrop of Linlithgow Palace and will take in the final section of the 46 mile Classic Challenge on closed roads on 11th September 2016.
Hayley and Harris will be riding the route and raising funds for children and young people in Scotland affected by poverty by supporting the STV Children’s Appeal, Pedal for Scotland’s Official Charity Partner. Wee Jaunt participants will also be able to raise money for the Appeal. Last year’s participants raised over £112,000 for the charity, supporting projects across Scotland including a number in West Lothian and the East of Scotland.
Live at Five presenter Hayley said, “The Wee Jaunt Edinburgh is set to be a fantastic day out and I’m really looking forward to taking part with Harris. All of the Pedal for Scotland events are a great way to raise money for the STV Children’s Appeal and help the kids that need it most.”
Keith Irving, Cycling Scotland chief executive, said, “The Wee Jaunt Edinburgh promises to be a fun-filled day for all the family, and an excellent introduction to travelling by bike, be it for work, school or pleasure. With a great new route starting in Linlithgow, riders – young and old – will be able to cycle on closed roads for 10 miles to a new finishing line event village at the Royal Highland Centre.”
The Wee Jaunt Edinburgh is just one of several Pedal for Scotland events taking place throughout 2016, including two other Wee Jaunt rides in Glasgow and Aberdeen, the 46 mile Classic Challenge from Glasgow to Edinburgh and the 112 mile Big Belter. Family friendly Wee Jaunt rides will give even more people a chance to be part of Scotland’s biggest bike event, regardless of age or ability.
